Welcome To Year 2
The Year Two team consists of Mrs Jackson, Mrs Hurcombe and Mrs Rai. Mrs Jackson and Mrs Hurcombe are available to speak to at the end of day or can be contacted through Class Dojo or school office.
We begin each day with guided reading, phonics, English & maths. Lessons that are part of the wider curriculum are usually taught in the afternoon. On Thursday afternoons from 2:30pm, we welcome family members and carers to read with the children in the 'Reading Cafe'. Homework is sent home every Friday and please return it by the following Friday. We also encourage that children read to an adult every day and that reading diaries are signed. We will change reading books when needed.
Children will take their SATS during May. This is something that we work towards but it does not limit the opportunities available to the children in year two as they receive a wide and varied curriculum beyond the core subjects of maths and English. Information about the SATs is communicated through two Sats meetings: one in the Autumn term and one in the Spring term. If you are unable to attend these meetings, please let a member of the Year Two team know as we are more than happy to provide a copy of the information provided during the meetings.
PE lessons are every Friday afternoon. Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school and earrings are removed before school.
Year 2 will be going swimming every Tuesday afternoon after February half-term.
If you would like any further advice or guidance on how to support your child at home then please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Year Two team. We thank you for your continued support.

Year 2 are enjoying Gymnastics this term in PE. This week, children were practising balancing on different parts of their body both on the floor and then on the apparatus. They investigated movement, stillness and using space safely. Children have been learning basic gymnastic actions on the floor and the transferring their skills on the apparatus.
It was great to see their confidence growing throughout the session, especially on the higher apparatus. See the photographs in our gallery below.
